uBookmark

uBookmark is a bookmark manager application. The core function of this app is to store and manage bookmarks. There are two versions of the app, one for macOS and one for iOS. They are the same app by design but the macOS version has little more advance in term of data processing. The reason is simply that a computer has more processing power than a mobile device. We will go into details later on.

uBookmark for macOS - Main Interface v3.0
uBookmark for iOS - Dashboard and Manager Interface v3.0

What it does

  • By design, this app works on Apple echo system. It works on macOS and iOS only. We do not create any version of this app to works on Windows or Android.

  • The first core function of this app is to save and manage bookmark. When a user uses uBookmark extension to bookmark a website. The extension will process and send that website to uBookmark. The main app will then further process the link and save it to a database.

  • The second core function is cross-platform. User has to have the app installed on macOS and iOS to use this function. When a user saves a bookmark using uBookmark on macOS then it will save and sync the database with the iOS version. Therefore, the user can access their bookmarks anywhere.

What it does not

  • The app will not automatically access data on user's browsers to import any existing bookmarks. This function may please some people but for others, it will be a huge security issue. Therefore, we do not offer that function in uBookmark. However, in the next version of this app, we may consider adding a new function to the app to help user import their bookmarks by file exported from Safari, Firefox or Chrome.

  • For the macOS version, there are three main components. First, the main application. It gives the user the GUI interface so that they can view, manage and edit their bookmarks. Second, the uBookmark Mini. The mini-application will not start automatically. User has to permit it to do so (change permission in the app preferences). The main function of the mini-application is to receive a signal from uBookmark for Chrome and Firefox. If a user does not use the extension for those two browsers then you do not have to enable the mini. Third, the extensions. uBookmark extension for Safari comes with the main app. User does not have to install it manually. However, for Chrome and Firefox, a user needs to install it by heading to an extension store of the browser they are using then search for uBookmark and install it.

  • uBookmark extension for Chrome and Firefox will not work by itself. Those two extensions need uBookmark Mini to work and uBookmark Mini only available on macOS. Windows user can search and install uBookmark extension on their Firefox or Chrome browser but it will not do anything. We received many feedbacks on Firefox and Chrome extension store about why the extension does not work. The reason is simply because it does not have a receiver to talk to.
